Coppercord cables feature a unique combination of cotton and PTFE (Teflon) as their primary and secondary dielectric. These innovative designs deliver a consistent signal transfer across the audible frequency range, with very low dielectric involvement. We have taken advantage of the full potential of cotton and Teflon by designing and producing insulated conductors that overcome typical, mechanical limitations associated with these two materials. Despite their minimal appearance which allows us to keep he price of these cables at low levels, their finish is elegant, very flexible and user friendly while their internal structure is maintained accurately by a solid and durable construction
Coppercord Connect consists of four solid OCC copper cores individually suspended inside cotton fibers and sealed in solid Teflon.. The application of cotton fibers allows a very good degree of dimensional stability with a predominantly air dielectric, preventing the movement of the copper wire inside the Teflon tubes. On the other hand the use of thin, solid PTFE as an outer layer maintains a fixed proximity among the cable conductors and ensures a perfect sealing factor preventing moisture to reach the cotton insulation and delivering an extremely efficient degree of electrical isolation with stable values across a wide range of frequencies and temperatures. The result is a largely air based dielectric with minimal impact, excellent suspension of the metal conductor and elimination of the aging and moisture absorption character of cotton.
The design is further topped with a lower density layer of PTFE serving as bedding insulation between the signal conductors and the cable shield. The cable is fully shielded from one end to the other using two layers of dense OFC copper braids of very high optical coverage . Finally, the cable is finished with a soft and extremely flexible silicone rubber jacket to enhance the mechanical characteristics of the cable as well as provide overall protection to the entire assembly.
Coppercord is an entirely handcrafted starquad cable. It is very flexible and it has an overall diameter of 5.5mm, finished with an option of translucent silicone rubber jacket or white PVC.. Since January 2023 Coppercord is produced with a double layer of braided popper shields to fully protect it from EMI/RFI. This dense, finely stranded protective layer (400 x 0.11mm) ensures a 100% coverage over a high depth and at the same time it remains extremely flexible. The signal copper conductors of the cable are not plated or enamel coated.
The idea behind the conductor design is to create a wire insulation with very low dielectric involvement but at the same time ensure that the insulating material will be mechanically secure and sealed from the environmental impact. Cotton on its own is a very popular insulating material for audiophile cables due its very low dielectric constant and its “cushioning” effect. However, Cotton is also an organic material which is highly moisture absorbent. Even a small percentage of moisture will drive the dielectric constant of cotton to very high levels (making it even worse than PVC), while it will eventually lead to the oxidization of the copper conductor and speed up the ageing process of the cotton itself. Further more, cotton is a very soft material which lacks the necessary dimensional stability required when a cable is moved or bent. The dimensional stability of an insulating material is very important on audio cables since it determines a fixed spacing among all the electrically conductive parts of a cable and ensures consistent electrical properties at all times. In order to overcome the above issues (but still maintain the advantages of using cotton as primary dielectric), we formed an outer layer of dielectric using solid, thin wall Teflon. This material seals the conductor in its entirety from the environmental impact while it protects mechanically the soft cotton interior.
The Coppercord Interconnect is available with two different types of outer jacket: a soft and extremely flexible silicone rubber jacket to enhance the mechanical characteristics of the cable or a white PVC jacket for a slightly firmer profile.
